Punta Ala Promontory

The promontory of Punta Ala is located on a peninsula, in province of Grosseto, in the town of Castiglione della Pescaia, between the beautiful seaside resort of Punta Ala and Rocchette.

Opposite Punta Ala there is the small island “ Isolotto dello Sparviero “, which is preceded by a series of rocks that bear the name “Scogli Porchetta.” The island and the rocks along the promontory of Punta Ala, form the Gulf of Follonica.

South of Punta Ala there is the beautiful and long sandy beach ” Spiaggia di Capanna Civinini”, while to the west in the picturesque village of Rocchette there is the beach “Spiaggia Roccamare”.

Castiglione della Pescaia extends over an area of 209 square kilometres and counts a population of about 7,500 inhabitants.

In the area there are several villages like Buriano, Tirli and Vetulonia, the famous marina of Punta Ala, and the beautiful area of Rocchette.

The city lies on the southern coast of Tuscany, with its enchanting natural beauties and artistic wealth of Etruscan and Roman art.

In 2005 the Touring Club has awarded the city of Punta Ala 5 stars, therefore, it is among the highest positions and among the top tourist destinations in Italy.

Castiglione della Pescaia, impresses with its imposing medieval castle, crystal clear sea, beautiful beaches and dunes, and miles of pine forest. Punta Ala is an unique and refined destination full of tranquillity.

The site is peculiar from a geographical point of view: it is situated on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the sea and covered by a thick forest of pine trees.

The place is famous for its extraordinary beauty, peace, the golf course and the marina, a popular destination for the international jet set.

Punta Ala is also known for sailing regattas, which are organized here.

The city was also the training ground of Italo Balbo, who in 1931 launched the first man to fly over the ocean.

Castiglione della Pescaia and Punta Ala enjoy a mild climate all year round. Both cities are in a repaired area and here the temperatures are on average higher than elsewhere in Italy.
