Bagni di Lucca

Bagni di Lucca is located in the Serchio Valley and it is one of the largest mountain municipality of Italy.

The villages that are part of the municipality are spread on its vast territory, which has about 6500 inhabitants.

The geographical location of this area is among the more fortunate: fresh and rich in hills, close to Abetone, 30 minutes far from Lucca and the mountains of Garfagnana, 40 minutes away from Viareggio and its beaches and an hour far from Florence.

It is therefore possible to reach the seaside and very famous art cities in a very short time, while spending pleasant evening immersed in nature and relax.

Bagni di Lucca is famous for its thermal waters. These sulphur springs of volcanic origin were already used in Roman times to provide relief to soldiers after the wars.

This town had the period of greatest splendour in the nineteenth century, when prominent people from across Europe regularly use its spa.

Waters gush from fifty-three sources with a temperature between 39 and 54 degrees centigrade.

Today there are seven spas that offer treatments and relaxation for Italian and foreign visitors.

Bagni di Lucca is located 150 meters above sea level and its climate and its territory have created an environment conducive to the development of peculiar species of plants and animals.

Therefore there are many interesting paths in the surrounding mountains.

Among the most popular routes there are those of Penna di Lucchio, of Pratofiorito, of Balzo Nero, of Strette di Cocciglia and of Orrido di Botri.

In the valley there are also many monuments and palaces that are worth visiting, including the historic Casino, the Villa Reale, the Stables, the English Church and the Protestant Monumental Cemetery.
