Museums in San Gimignano

The most important museums of the city are:

Former Conservatory of Santa Fina now housing the Archaeological Museum and the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art.

Archaeological Museum – Pharmacy of Santa Fina – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea Via Folgore 11, opening hours: daily, 11-18 clock; Tel: 0039 0577 940 384;

The Dombaumuseum collecting liturgical ornaments and paintings of the fifteenth century from various churches in the area. Worthy of note are the books of the choir that contain miniature painted in gold of the fourteenth century and the Collegiate Church of San Gimignano. One section contains archaeological finds, including bas-reliefs of the fourteenth and fifteenth century, and stones and pieces of the thirteenth to the sixteenth century.

Museo d’Arte Sacra Piazza Pecori 1; opening hours from 01.03 at 20:01 every day 9,30-19,30 Clock. Closed in February.

The Museum of Medieval Criminology, Via del Castello, showing a terrific collection of medieval instruments of torture up to methods of execution such as electrocution and American gas chamber. The visit to the museum is not suitable for children.

July to September daily from 10 till 24, the rest of the year, every day from 10 to 19. The Augustinian monastery, in the north of the city, offers in the church choir, a large cycle of paintings by Benozzo Gozzoli and his students. every day 7-12 and 15-18.
