Pisa

Pisa has a population of approximately 100,000 inhabitants and is one of the most beautiful art cities in Italy. It is mainly known for the Leaning Tower, but actually Pisa can offer a lot more.

Piazza dei Miracoli, one of the most visited places in the world, consists of a monumental complex including all at once the Dome, the Baptistery and the Tower. It dates back to 1173 and it is 54 meters high. It counts 294 steps to reach the top and it was used by Galileo for his experiments on gravity. Its leaning position seems to defy the very laws of gravity.

In Piazza dei Cavalieri there are many valuable buildings by Vasari. Among them the Palazzo dei Cavalieri, which houses the Scuola Normale Superiore, is the most astonishing and superb.

The Botanical Gardens are also worth a visit. Here visitors can admire really old and rare botanical specimens.

In Pisa there are also other wonderful works as the churches of San Frediano, Santa Caterina and Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri.
