Massa Carrara

The origins of Massa Carrara date back to the sixteenth century. It consists of a medieval centre and the most recent areas going towards the marina.

The landscape includes the background of the Apuan Alps, the famous mountain from where the precious marble is extracted. This marble used for valuable works of art of the most famous Italian sculptors as Michelangelo and for modern works of art. Marble blocks are extracted from the quarries and they have different colours from white to many shades and nuances.

An attractions of Massa Carrara is Piazza degli Aranci, so called because of the citrus plants that adorn it. In the centre of the square has there is an obelisk with some fountains in the shape of a lion.

Massa is in fact a city that focuses its business on the manufacture of marble, but it is also focused on tourism thanks to the presence of sea and mountains, both beautiful and suitable for any kind of holidays visitors might look for.
